Be in the Present

How can yoga help? If you let it, yoga can teach you to live more in the present and go about your daily life with more awareness and more attention. That can translate into sitting and standing with your head in line with your spine, and your shoulders over your hips -- so your back isn’t doing all the work. A regular yoga practice may remind you to shift the weight from your back to your legs when picking up a child or something heavy. It may encourage you to make all movements with full awareness instead of racing through them mindlessly and risking injury or pain. “The yoga philosophy -- being where you are and not thinking ahead to the next task -- helps you be more aware of your posture and what you’re doing,” says Miller.
