Forget bronzed baby shoes -- Victoria and David Beckham have one-upped that tired tradition when it comes to capturing their baby girl's growth. As HollyBaby recently reported, the celebrity parents purchased a kit to make plaster casts of Harper Seven’s hands and feet, and are now waiting for them to be cast in gold. (Apparently bronze baby mementos are sooo last century.) The cost? A pricey $1600.
As a new mom myself, I totally understand the urge to capture scrumptious baby feet at their tiniest. (I have the photos to prove it!) But these gold casts just seem sort of weird to me. For starters, the cost is crazy. (Although, admittedly, $1600 to the Beckhams is probably like $16 to the rest of us.) But it also feels old fashioned -- and not in a cool, retro-y way -- amid all the uber-cute ways available to track baby’s growth these days. Frankly, I expected something more modern from Posh Spice.
True, the Beckhams are clearly in major new baby love, what with David wearing pink cleats in Harper's honor and announcing practically seconds after delivery that he and Victoria would love one more child. I hate to be a judge-y mom, but I’ve gotta agree with one friend’s reaction to the news: “blech.” Gold may be precious, but I’ll stick to paper.
