Aphrodite is the goddess of love, sensuality and beauty. She gives us the power to love and be loved, and to feel comfortable with our bodies and our sexuality. Everything that delights the senses is ruled by her. Her passion, charisma, self-assurance, radiance, grace and vulnerability make her a goddess well worth emulating. To invoke Aphrodite is to open yourself to a world of beautiful and sensual experiences.
Aphrodite is perhaps best known as the goddess of sexual love. Bringing more Aphrodite into your life will fuel your libido and awaken your erotic feelings. You will also find that men are more drawn to you and that you are a powerful seducer. Under her influence, you will feel more alive and alert; new sensations and emotions will fill your body, mind and soul. You may feel more energized at work or more creative. You may feel inspired to be more generous toward other people. You will see magic in the world where you saw none before. In short, you will feel as if you have fallen in love. In love, Aphrodite allows herself to be loved with all her imperfections; in turn, she loves a man for who he is and not for who she wants him to be. This opens the door for true personal and relationship fulfillment.
So how can you get in touch with the Aphrodite within you? Practice the following visualization exercise. (A suggestion: record the steps to this exercise on tape.)
Choose a quiet time when you will be uninterrupted and a place where you can sit comfortably. Inhale deeply and exhale with a big sigh. Do this a few times. Imagine that you are going scuba diving. Expert divers are with you to help you travel into the depths of the ocean safely. Visualize yourself putting on your oxygen mask and dropping under the water, going deeper and deeper toward the bottom of the ocean. There you come upon a large, shining chest. With the help of your fellow divers, you bring it to the surface, where it pops open to reveal a most beautiful, radiant, glowing model of you. As you usher your other self out of the waves and into shore, the model breathes the fresh air and comes to life. You face a replica of yourself that has your exact shape and looks exquisitely beautiful, radiating love and vulnerability. Your skin is soft and tender; your expression is serene and gracious. There is golden light all around you. You take off your scuba gear walk gently, hand-in-hand with yourself up the beach. As you breathe in and out, her beauty envelops you completely. Allow this experience to help change the way you walk, the way you hold yourself, the way you breathe and the way you feel about yourself. As you breathe in and out, become comfortable with the knowledge that you are beautiful. See the world with new eyes. Feel the joy of reuniting with a long-lost friend. When you open your eyes, you may think that this new feeling will leave you, but if you take a moment to revisit the beach and anchor your beauty in your heart, you might experience profound changes in your self-image and in the way others respond to you. What you can behold you can become.
What else can you do to bring more Aphrodite into your life? Plenty. Whatever you do in your life to nurture your own beauty will help increase the influence of Aphrodite. Here are some suggestions:
- Display a picture of yourself that you love in a prominent place in your home, where you can see it every day. Send it loving thoughts.
- Buy yourself a luxury item you can afford, such as beautiful lingerie, elegant slippers, an exquisite scarf or a new perfume.
- Take a long, scented bubble bath. Fill the bathroom with candles and music you love.
- Redecorate your bedroom; make it your sacred, aphrodisiacal sanctuary. Introduce more sensual elements into the decor, such as satiny fabrics, small pillows, scented candles and pictures of romantic places.
- Whenever possible, take your time; rushing cuts off your sensuality.
- Give yourself permission to feel beautiful, lovable and sensual and to do those things that please and delight you.
