Ben Affleck: "I Am Not Running for Office"

The actor shot down rumors via his Facebook page that he was getting ready to take on the Senate

Ben Affleck might be one of Hollywood's most politically outspoken celebrities, but don't expect him to follow in the footsteps of fellow stars-turned-politicos Arnold Schwarzenegger or Clint Eastwood

The Argo director, 40, took time over the holidays to confirm that he's not seeking to run for public office in his native state of Massachusetts, no matter how keen some of his fans are to see that happen.

"I love Massachusetts and our political process, but I am not running for office," Affleck wrote on his Facebook page on Dec. 24. "Right now it's a privilege to spend my time working with Eastern Congo Initiative (ECI), supporting our veterans, drawing attention to the great many who go hungry in the U.S. everyday and using filmmaking to entertain and foster discussion about issues like our relationship to Iran."

"We are about to get a great Secretary of State and there are some phenomenal candidates in Massachusetts for his Senate seat," he added, referring to Senator John Kerry, whom President Obama nominated for Secretary of State. "I look forward to an amazing campaign."

Affleck's statement follows an interview with CBS' Face the Nation last week, during which he left the door open about the possibility of his running for Kerry's seat.

"Well, one never knows. I'm not one to get into conjecture," the actor-director said. "I do have a great fondness and admiration for the political process in this country, but I'm not going to get into speculation about my political future."

The father of three and husband of fellow actor Jennifer Garner added that even if he wanted to pursue politics, he's "got a lot on [his] plate."
