Bert and Ernie

"I'd say Bert needs a lot of emotional security," says Dr. William Braun, a child psychoanalyst in New York City. "He's kind of timid and doesn't like to try new things." Eigen offers a more blunt assessment: "Bert is a depressive personality, he's a glass-is-half-empty kind of person, and he sucks the joy out of the room. He would be a good quality-control expert."

As for Ernie, Eigen says, "He's got a sidekick personality, can't make decisions, and he lives vicariously through others. He can be creative, but he can't put it into action." According to Eigen, these two are stuck in a co-dependent relationship.
