Where to Go When You Want to Hit the Road With the Family

Taking a trip with the family can have its highs (amazing food, alone time with your husband, baby's first swim in the ocean) and lows (overtired kids, forgetting the diapers, the meltdown in the piazza). But by the time it’s all over, chances are you’ve made some pretty fantastic memories. We asked moms and dads to tell us about their most memorable family vacation -- ready to plan your trip?

Cambodia/Thailand/Myanmar
We recently took our kids out of school for a month and visited Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar (Burma). We have four children, but our oldest two are in college, so we took our 13- and 10-year-olds, Carlton and Holly.

While Thailand and Cambodia were certainly wonderful, Myanmar was the one place where we really felt like travelers, not tourists. No Starbucks, no ATMs, nothing familiar. In Bagan, there’s a valley the size of Manhattan that has more than 4,000 temples -- more than all the cathedrals of Europe combined! It’s a stunning untouched landscape, like something out of Tolkien’s wildest imagination.

We were so emboldened by our adventure that we’re now preparing to spend nine months traveling this year -- from Vienna to Bali and as many places as possible in between.
