Why it's special: The Canyons is located in charming Park City, the historic Rocky Mountain mining town that hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002.
Children's programs: Little Adventures Children's Center welcomes babies from 6 weeks to 24 months to its indoor nursery; there are also indoor and outdoor playtimes (with crafts and sledding) for toddlers (ages 2–3) and preschoolers (ages 3–6). Kids can start ski lessons as young as 2 and snowboarding as young as 4: Canyon Cubs (ages 2–6) combines daycare with a daily one-on-one lesson; Canyon Cats (ages 4–6) teaches skiing and boarding basics through fun games and scaled down equipment; and Canyon Carvers (ages 7–12) gives skiers and boarders of all abilities a chance to hone their skills in small groups. Older kids have supervised ski and snowboarding sessions at Teen Adventure (ages 13–17).
What to do off the slopes: The resort offers zip lining and guided snowshoe or dog sled tours. But you'll also want to venture out: Go tubing at nearby Gorgoza Park -- its Fort Frosty toddler/preschool play area is designed for tiny tubers. Watch kids go bananas at Monkey Mountain indoor playground, with a toddler zone and 4-Tier Tree House. Stroll Park City's adorable Main Street and learn all about the Gold Rush at the hands-on Park City Museum (best for school age kids). Visit Utah Olympic Park, where you can watch aerial skiers practice their high-flying moves, hop the chair lift to the top of the ski jump (altitude 7,130 feet!), and ride the bobsled at speeds up to 80 mph (kids must be at least 16).
