Thinking about booking flights for your summer travel plans in hopes to save a few bucks? You might suppose that the farther in advance you book, the more money you save, but think again! According to Huffington Post, the absolute cheapest time to buy a domestic flight is 54 days before takeoff.
However, if you can't book exactly 7 1/2 weeks in advance, CheapAir suggests booking flights within 104 and 29 days in advance of travel. The cheapest flights will only hover within $10 or so, so if you find a cheap flight and think you can get an even bigger discount, don't wait too long.
On another note, if you're planning on booking your Memorial Day weekend trip, start looking sooner rather than later. Your flight's "best price window" is a lot wider if you're considering a popular time of year (think: Spring break, summer vacation and Labor Day) to a popular destination (like, New York City during Christmas or Florida for Spring break).
And, if you're planning a trip to a foreign country, you should be booking tickets well in advance. For Europe the magic day is 151 days in advance, but for Mexico it's only 89 days.
