It was officially announced on Monday that British actor Charlie Hunnam, who stars on Sons of Anarchy and was the lead in the summer blockbuster Pacific Rim, will play S&M aficionado Christian Grey in the upcoming movie 50 Shades of Grey. The film is an adaptation of the popular fan-fiction-turned-international-phenomenom-that-made-us-uncomfortable-to-learn-our-moms-read. Hunnam will star alongside Dakota Johnson who snagged the coveted role of Anastasia Steele. And though I've never read the books, I'm guessing 80 percent of the film's run-time will feature Johnson and Hunnam doing the dirty. Probably.
Pandora users, rejoice! Unlimited streaming is available once again! Everyone’s favorite Internet radio streaming service has removed its 40 hours per month listening restriction so you can once again play your favorite stations 24/7, for free! The company says this transformation comes due in large part to the rapid success of its mobile ads, where Pandora is now the third largest generator of revenue behind only Facebook and Google.
In a video captured in Taiwan, we see a mudslide that contains a boulder ROUGHLY THE SIZE OF TAIWAN narrowly miss crushing a car in its path. The driver of that car is possibly the luckiest person in the world, although he more than likely ruined whatever pair of pants he had on.
Fans of Sherlock:
Mark Gatiss, who plays Mycroft Holmes, brother of the world’s greatest detective/title character on BBC’s widely popular Sherlock, announced on Sunday via Twitter that the final day of filming the show's third season had wrapped. The new episodes are slated to air at the end of the year, meaning we have a few more months to go before we pick up where Season 2’s cliffhanger left off.
The anticipation is killing us.
Media darling and on-again/off-again American favorite Tim Tebow was cut from the New England Patriots this weekend after having a less-than-stellar preseason.
While it may not be the end of Tebow’s career, most NFL analysts seem to agree that this is not a good sign for the young player. Where he ends up next year -- if anywhere -- remains to be seen. Perhaps the Canadian League?
A New-To-Chicago International Student:
An international student was the victim of a cold-hearted cab driver in Chicago when he was charged more than $4,000 for a ride. The University of Illinois student was tricked by the driver, who wrongly told the 18-year-old -- fresh off the plane from China -- that there were no more buses heading to his campus in Champaign, Ill. The cabbie said he would take the student for a steal "at $1,000" (for the record, that is not a very good deal). The student -- who understands little to no English -- agreed, but when they arrived on campus, the cabbie demanded $4,800. The student gave him all the cash he had (an impressive $4,240), and police are currently on the hunt for the scamming taxi driver.
This South American President’s Son:
Dino Bouterse, the son of Suriname President Desi Bouterse, was arrested on Friday after being charged with running an illegal cocaine smuggling ring in the U.S. Oh, and he was also busted for owning and regularly brandishing a rocket launcher.
While this was certainly a bad weekend for the young man, we have to admit: He certainly took the whole “politicians' children getting into shenanigans” thing to a new level.
People Who Complain About Their Gym Routines:
Consider all of your workout-related excuses moot from this point forward: On Monday, 64-year-old Diana Nyad became the first person to swim 110 miles, non-stop, from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage. Yes that's right, this sort of endeavor usually requires A SHARK CAGE, something our workouts rarely ever call for.
The swim was Nyad's fifth attempt at the feat, and took nearly three full days to complete. Meanwhile, we spent our Labor Day weekend gorging ourselves on BBQ and lounging in lawn chairs.
