Heading into last night’s Video Music Awards on MTV, Justin Timberlake led the pack with the most nominations (tied with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis), but that was just an appetizer for things to come. After singing a medley of his own hits, the superstar reunited (however briefly) with the boys of 'N Sync before being honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, presented by Jimmy Fallon. Finally, because that wasn’t enough domination, Timberlake took home the night’s biggest award when his video for “Mirrors” snagged the Video of the Year moonman. Congrats, JT!
In case you missed the MTV Video Music Awards (the only reasonable excuse being you were watching Breaking Bad), Miley Cyrus' teddy bear-infused burlesque show to her song "We Can’t Stop" is getting criticism from everyone, including Rihanna and One Direction. As if that wasn’t making things bad enough for the pop star, she also released the cover art for her new album Bangerz (no, the Z is not a typo), which is also drawing the attention of her haterz. Maybe not the worst weekend, but she certainly isn't Disney's sweetheart any longer.
Russian Army Choir
When you think of Russian Army Choirs, what comes to mind? If you didn’t answer: 1.) How much vodka is required to warm up vocal cords? 2.) The Russian army has choirs? or 3.) Does Vladimir Putin know about this?, then you’re probably a liar. What you definitely didn’t guess was these skilled singers can pull off one awesome rendition of "Skyfall." It kind of makes you wonder just what goes on in Russian army camps. Apparently, vocal training.
While we can’t (and certainly don’t want to) determine what makes a good or bad weekend for a pimp, we do know that getting arrested never makes for an enjoyable time regardless of your “employment.” While he most likely wasn’t the only pimp arrested this weekend, 34-year-old Martell Davis was picked up for sex trafficking while wearing a shirt reading "I make pimpin’ look easy," which is kind of like receiving a speeding ticket while wearing a Fast & Furious shirt. Irony: 1 Pimps: 0
The University of Arizona, Carnegie Observatory and Arcetri Observatory near Florence, Italy have teamed up to create a new type of camera that allows scientists to take sharper images of the night sky than ever before. This is great news for stars and planets that constantly find themselves being portrayed in the media as blurry balls of light with little or no shape. As if!
Business tycoon, television mogul and probable gold toilet owner Donald Trump had a bad weekend after he was sued for $40 million for illegal business practices at his for-profit Trump University which, yes, exists. According to the New York State attorney general, the school was an unlicensed educational institution from 2005-2011 that made false claims about its classes in an elaborate bait and switch. Trump responded with this tweet:
Wow, l just found out that A.G. Schneiderman met with President Obama in Syracuse on Thursday --- and sued me on Saturday! Same as IRS etc.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 25, 2013
