It all started with a simple, low-cal margarita that erupted into a successful lifestyle brand for reality star, entrepreneur and new mom, Bethenny Frankel. In addition to cocktails and books, the Bravo reality TV star and best-selling author recently collaborated with Wal-Mart to sell her newest endeavor -- Skinnygirl Face & Solutions and Skinnygirl Mommy.
The skincare and beauty lines boast low-priced goods from plumping lip glosses, facial lotions and scrubs, to a firming night cream and cooling foot spray. Gift sets will are also available including a Margarita Bath Kit (a trio of margarita-scented shower gel, body scrub and body lotion) and a mommy line for pregnant women and new moms. You can browse all of the products online or in Wal-Mart stores.
With nothing topping $16 (lowest price products are lip balms for $4.97 while highest price products are Body Solutions kits for $15.97), Frankel has succeeded in making her line affordable. But will it work? Frankel told HollywoodLife.com that “the difference between a hundred dollar cream and a 15 dollar cream is negligible...in most cases the money is in the packaging and people are just appealing to people in marketing and I think it’s deceptive.” After the Skinnygirl Margarita and Whole Foods controversy, some may be skeptical about Frankel’s skincare line. Last September, Whole Foods stopped carrying Skinnygirl Margaritas when it was revealed that they were produced with sodium benzoate, a non-natural ingredient that is found in many acidic soda and juice drinks. Here’s what the Skinnygirl Face & Body website has to say about the new skincare line: “While the products are not organic they do contain organic ingredients. They do not contain any cancer causing ingredients or petroleum.”
Frankel will be hosting a 30-minute Twitter party tonight, March 26th, at 9:30 p.m. EST to talk about her new skincare line. Join in using the hashtag #AffordableBeauty.
