Bethenny Frankel first gained notoriety as a reality star -- she was a finalist on 2005's The Apprentice: Martha Stewart and was one of the original Real Housewives of New York City -- but she's since gone on to become a bona fide media mogul. Her resume now includes three non-fiction books, an exercise DVD, two more reality shows, an affordable skincare line, the multimillion-dollar Skinnygirl Cocktails empire and an upcoming talk-show. And how could we forget? Her debut novel Skinnydipping hits stores May 1.
"(Working on the novel) has been the best experience. This is the most fun I've had writing so far, maybe in my whole career," Frankel, 41, tells iVillage exclusively. And that could be because a whole lot of Bethenny found its way into the pages of her novel.
"I would say that my experiences influence all of my projects, particularly the things that I write," she says. "When you're writing, you definitely access parts of your life."
That life includes being a wife to hubby Jason Hoppy, a mother to daughter Bryn, almost 2, and -- yes -- a media "mogul."
"I could never imagine that someone would be calling me a mogul," Frankel says. "I could imagine that someone would say that I was married to a mogul, but I never thought that I would be the mogul."
Nevertheless, she is one -- and she says the secret to her success is very simple.
"I am organized. I am orderly. I try to get a good night's sleep. My house and life aren't in disarray," she explains. "You just kind of tackle one thing and then worry about the next thing. I have no idea what I have to do tomorrow, but I know what I have to do today."
Part of that, Frankel says, is making sure she gets 60 minutes each day to do something she wants to do -- and thusly maintain her sanity.
"I get one hour that my baby naps. I choose what to do with that hour. I can either do a yoga DVD in my bedroom, take a nap or have sex with my husband... I choose whatever I choose on that particular day. But I use that hour wisely."
