Bethenny Frankel's Mom Fires Back Against "Toxic" Childhood Claims

"I love my daughter, but what she's saying is killing me," the Bravo star's mother tells Star magazine

While Bethenny Frankel is basking in the joys of new motherhood, the reality star recently opened up to People magazine about her own painful childhood, calling her own mother "extremely volatile." Appearing on the cover of last week's issue with 2-month-old daughter Bryn, the Bethenny Getting Married? star opened up about a very troubled adolescence. But now, Frankel's mom, Bernadette Birk, is defending herself against the claims that she wasn't there for her daughter.

"I love my daughter, but what she's saying is killing me," Birk told Star magazine.

Frankel described her childhood as 'toxic," alleging "there was a lot of destruction: alcohol abuse, eating disorders and violent fights."

But Birk says her daughter's claims are untrue; that she was never bulimic and did not have a drinking problem. Though she does admit she has only spoken to her daughter twice in the past decade, she maintains that Frankel was "the most important person in my world." Birk says she keeps tabs on her daughter by watching her on television.

You can follow Bethenny yourself by tuning in to  'Bethenny Getting Married?' on Thursdays at 10 p.m. on Bravo.
