The decision of when and how to share the news of your pregnancy is a very personal one, and the rule of thumb most people adhere to is to wait until your first trimester has passed before telling anyone. (The risk of miscarriage is greatest in those first three months, and many women choose to wait until they've safely arrived in the second trimester before spreading the word.)
But if you're a celebrity, not only are the paparazzi following your every move, your personal life is seemingly everyone's business. Such is the case with The Real Housewives of New York City star Bethenny Frankel, whose pregnancy had been brought to the attention of the entire world on many gossip sites -- even though she's only two months along.
A tearful Frankel confirmed to PEOPLE what was already an open secret all over the Internet: "It's premature to be telling people this," she said. "It's not like, 'Did I get Botox?' It's not the way I wanted it to get out," she said. "I haven't even gone through my first trimester. We haven't even heard the heartbeat. My [fiance's] parents didn't even know."
Bethenny got engaged to Jason Poppy on Oct. 8, and says they are both "very excited" to be expecting, and that she is "praying everything is okay, but I don't know that yet."
Though she wished she could've revealed the news on her own terms, it's not because she's old-fashioned, or has any issues with being pregnant at her wedding. Quite the contrary. Bethenny feels like she won "the Triple Crown" being able to get engaged, pregnant and married.
"I got to be honest, we are both feeling kind of proud of ourselves," Frankel said. "We are both 38 and we were like, 'Listen, your fish can swim and I am fertile.' So that's exciting."
What do you think about Bethenny's pregnancy being revealed? Did you wait until after the first trimester to share your news?
