Johnson is constantly earning attention for her bold fashions and eccentric style. She yelled “Ride me! Ride me!” from atop a pink bicycle on the catwalk of her New York City runway show earlier this year. But the 60-something designer kept her 1999 breast cancer diagnosis quiet, fearful that the news might negatively impact her business. Johnson confided only in her daughter, Lulu, after discovering lumps in her breast when one of her saline implants deflated during a massage. These days, Johnson is doing well following a lumpectomy and radiation -- and she has become active in the fight, serving as honorary chairperson for the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative.
