Viva la Betty White! The 88-year-old TV icon further solidified her standing in pop culture with her hilarious turn as a first-time Saturday Night Live host. Not only did the universally beloved actress draw huge laughs on the show and a shout-out from musical guest Jay-Z, but she also garnered SNL's biggest ratings in 18 months!
The Golden Girls star explained in her opening monologue that her episode materialized thanks to a campaign on "huge waste of time" Facebook. And according to Entertainment Weekly, it pulled in "an 8.8 rating/21 share among 56 local markets" and "a 5.1/20 share among adults 18-49 -- another high since the Nov. 1 telecast."
White even toppled the NBA finals over the weekend, as SNL finished first overall for Saturday evening. The Mother's Day-themed episode featured ultimate team player White in a varitety of hilarious, and sometimes very raunchy sketches (check out the inuendo-laced "Delicious Dish" skit below!) as well as appearances from former legendary SNL ladies, including Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer, Molly Shannon, and Rachel Dratch.
Unfortunately, White's episode could only last 90 minutes. NBC, perhaps realizing viewers just can't get enough Betty, has now released un-aired sketch material, including a new "Debbie Downer" scene online.
Of all of White's aired and un-aired skits, which was your favorite? Were you also touched by how much love the cast, crew and audience gave to the oh-so-adorable Betty? Can't she host every week?!
