The efforts of the hundreds of thousands of Facebook users who petitioned to have Golden Girls actress Betty White host an episode of Saturday Night Live have finally paid off. White, who attended (and was reportedly a major hit at) Elton John's annual Oscar party, confirmed with People that she will, in fact, be appearing on the show!
White, 88, has seen a major resurgence in popularity over the past year, thanks to her scene-stealing role in Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds' 2009 rom-com The Proposal, not to mention a riotous Super Bowl commercial for Snickers. The Golden Girls star says she's dumbfounded by the support for her upcoming gig. White told People at Sunday night's event, "I don't know why or how, but it's been wonderful."
At last count, the Facebook group which started it all -- aptly named "Betty White to Host SNL (Please?)!" -- has more than 485,000 fans. NBC has not yet made an announcement about what an appearance by the actress and animal activist (recipient of a lifetime achievement award at this year's SAG Awards) will entail. We hope she hosts! And we bet if she does, it'll be a ratings winner for the late-night series.
