It's baby blues -- er, baby Blue -- for new parents Beyonce and Jay-Z, and we love the name choice. We think. Sort of.
As the world now knows, Blue Ivy Carter was born this past weekend, and the name apparently has lots of significance for her parents. Beyonce reportedly loves the number 4 -- she and Jay-Z were both born on the fourth day of the month, and were married on April 4th; and they have matching "IV" tattoos. So Ivy (or IVy) makes sense. And, of course, 'Blue' is a four-letter name.
Blue also has musical elements to it. Jay-Z has used "The Blueprint" in three different album titles, and then there's a nod to Jazz history: The Blue Note is a famous New York jazz club; jazz musician Miles Davis has an album called Kind of Blue; and Billie Holiday's autobiographical film was called Lady Sings the Blues.
Of course, all of this is pure (fun!) speculation, but we love how there are multiple ways the name has relevance to the couple's lives, and we also love how it straddles the fine line between unique-pretty (see: John Travolta and Kelly Preston's Ella Bleu) and unique-odd (see: Alicia Silverstone's Bear Blu). Even if it is a little plant-like, and we kind of think 'Ivy Blue' has a nicer ring to it.
