Little Blue Ivy apparently needed a snack during a lunch date with her parents last week. Beyonce was spotted breastfeeding her new baby at the table while having brunch with Jay-Z at New York City eatery Sant Ambroeus. Two sources close to the couple say Beyonce has been nursing her eight-week-old since her birth, according to US Weekly.
Here at iVillage, we love that Bey is breastfeeding (and we kind of had a feeling she was nursing), no matter where she does it. To find out what everyone else thought about it -- we sorted through the pages of comments at US Weekly, where the story first appeared.
Plenty of readers applauded -- and defended -- her choice to nurse Blue Ivy in a restaurant.
"Good for Beyonce! Maybe if more women that are 'in the spotlight' would follow suit, America would open their eyes, get educated, and realize that it is a natural, NORMAL way to feed our babies." -- Alicia
"I am glad Bey is breastfeeding her infant whenever she needs to eat regardless of being at home or out and about. I can't believe that feeding an infant had to be so controversial." -- Kizzy
"I don’t see the fuss over a woman breastfeeding her baby. I'd much rather have my wife breastfeeding in public then to have to deal with a screaming baby." -- Josh
"You go girl...breastfeeding is a natural thing that has been around forever, seriously you can wear short-shorts, bikinis and nasty ma- thongs, but a woman can’t naturally feed her child in public even with a cover without getting a ton of unwanted and unneeded mean comments?" -- Milyssa
But not everyone was as supportive of Beyonce breastfeeding her baby. Nursing in public is "nasty," they said, and the singer is just looking for more attention.
"I think its private thing and NOT to be done in public." -- Jan
"Nasty; breastfeeding should be done in private, not public. Women who breastfeed in front of everyone are just trying to get on people's nerves because they know most don't like it. Either that or they're just trying to show off their boobs. It's sickening and repugnant either way." -- Lisa
"Ridiculous. Breastfeeding shouldn't be done in public. We get it. You're rich, famous and have a baby. She's another mom, and it's another infant. They should be held to the same 'standards' as everyone else. Get a room. Or a breast pump." -- Holly
"Sorry but breast is not always best." -- Kristy
We're shocked and frustrated by how many people still can't deal with the sight of a mom breastfeeding -- when we all know that breast milk is the healthiest choice for babies. What will it take to get our country to be able to handle a mom feeding her baby? Maybe if anyone can put breastfeeding on top, Beyonce can.
