Seven months after the birth of daughter Blue Ivy, Beyonce and Jay-Z have something new to celebrate. The musical power duo has been declared the World's Highest-Paid Celebrity Couple by Forbes magazine, soaring past last year's #1 couple, Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady.
Apparently, maternity leave didn't put a dent in Beyonce's income. Forbes says that her earnings in the past year total $40 million, thanks to her multi-platinum album 4 and her many endorsement deals. Her rapper hubby brought in nearly as much dough, between his business ventures and his hit collaboration with Kanye West, Watch the Throne. The couple's total income is a whopping $78 million dollars.
Coming in behind Be and Jay are last year's highest-paid couple,Tom and Gisele. Supermodel Bundchen is the breadwinner in the family, bringing in a cool $45 million in modeling gigs, endorsements and licensing ventures. It's no wonder that Brady has decided to take a cue from his wife's playbook, modeling for brands like Under Armour and UGGs. Between that and his $72 million contract extension with the New York Patriots, his earnings total $27 million. The couple's combined bank account holds just $6 million less than Beyonce and Jay-Z's, at $72 million.
The remaining couples on the list are no slouches, either. In third place, we have David and Victoria Beckham, which is no surprise: he's the world's highest-paid soccer player (making $46 million a year), and she has one of the world's most successful celebrity fashion lines. (Plus she's still getting Spice Girls royalties!) Those two made $54 million last year.
In the slightly embarrassing rank of fourth place are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, arguably the most famous couple in Hollywood. Then again, the actor couple isn't so focused on big-budget projects these days. In 2011, Jolie made her directorial debut with the indie drama In the Land of Blood and Honey, while Pitt made the offbeat flicks Moneyball and Tree of Life. (Jolie also did Kung Fu Panda 2. Those six kids have gotta eat!) Between their films and endorsements -- remember Jolie's Louis Vuitton ads? -- the couple made a combined $45 million.
The fifth and final couple on the list is the dynamic duo of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Although their marriage was rumored to be on the rocks this past year, their finances are holding steady, with projects like Men in Black 3, the upcoming After Earth (co-starring Will and son Jaden Smith), and Pinkett's Madagascar 3. Total earnings last year: $40 million.
While all the couples on the list are impressive, there are no big surprises. But here's a crazy thought: if Kanye West had married Kim Kardashian this year, their combined income would be $53 million -- putting them ahead of Brangelina. If Kimye stays together, be prepared to see them on many future lists!
