Beyonce and Michelle Obama have formed a mutual admiration society, and they just can't keep it to themselves! After the "Love on Top" singer wrote an admiring open letter to Mrs. Obama last week, the first lady responded on Twitter with some praise of her own.
Beyonce began the correspondence by posting a handwritten thank-you note to "Michelle" on her newly revamped website, calling the first lady "the ULTIMATE example of a truly strong African-American woman."
"No matter the pressure, and the stress of being under the microscope -- she's humble, loving and sincere," Beyonce, 30, wrote. "She builds and nurtures her family, while also looking out for so many millions in so many ways."
"Michelle, thank you so much for every single thing that u do for us," the Grammy winner concluded. "I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you, to look up to. Love, Beyonce."
On Friday, Obama responded to Blue Ivy's mama personally on Twitter.
"@Beyonce Thank you for the beautiful letter and for being a role model who kids everywhere can look up to," Obama, 48, tweeted, signing off with her initials to show that she wrote the message herself.
The first lady has long been a fan of Beyonce, whose tunes are part of her iPod workout mix.
"I always love Beyonce, so anything that's fast-paced that she's doing is a good one for me," Obama said during a Q&A in 2011.
The singer has supported the Obamas, too, singing at President Barack Obama's inauguration and participating in the first lady's "Let's Move" fitness initiative. (She loaned her song "Get Me Bodied" for Michelle's national "dance-in," and even showed up at a Harlem public school to dance along.) She and her husband Jay-Z, of whom Barack Obama is a big fan, have also been guests at the White House. Talk about two power couples!
It makes sense that Michelle Obama and Beyonce would share a bond; both are overachieving, multitasking women who never seem to stop moving. And now that she's a mother, Beyonce is no doubt looking to other hard-working moms for inspiration. Just wait until baby Blue is old enough to realize who her Aunt Michelle and Uncle Barack really are!
