You know you’ve got a bright future ahead of you when you’re a 7-year-old beating 15- and 16-year-olds at a talent competition. That was the case for Beyoncé, who won her first singing prize -- and a standing ovation -- by belting out John Lennon's “Imagine.” And long before she was Sasha Fierce, Beyoncé knew how to give a crowd its money’s worth: she would charge her parents’ friends five dollars to watch her perform at their home. (Worth it!) At 12, she sang in the choir at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Houston.
