The Plot: In 1960s Mississippi, three women -- two African-American maids (Doubt's Viola Davis and Ugly Betty's Octavia Spencer) and one white college student (Emma Stone) -- flout racial bias to form a powerful friendship, as she documents black women's stories of discrimination.

The Buzz: A proven comedienne, "It Girl" Stone (who appears in no less than three movies this summer -- Crazy, Stupid, Love., Friends With Benefits and The Help) will instead test her dramatic mettle in this adaptation of Kathryn Stockett's weighty, acclaimed book.
