The Biggest Loser's Tanya on Week 7: A Life of Thanksgiving

In her exclusive blog for iVillage, Tanya reveals how grateful she was to be a part of Thanksgiving blessings sent to the survivors of Moore, Oklahoma

This week’s episode rejuvenated the spirit of gratitude as I celebrated Thanksgiving on the Biggest Loser Ranch. I reflected on my journey and immediately started counting my blessings -- I am thankful for the gift of life and the opportunity to completely “unwrap” and enjoy it.

We are all now accustomed to fighting for our chance to win challenges and weigh-ins, but this week was about fighting for others and “paying it forward.”

We participated in a Food Drive Challenge to feed the tornado survivors of Moore, Oklahoma. We race involved loading 15 and 30 lbs boxes of Thanksgiving turkeys, cranberries, green beans and yams into trucks. The prize for the winning team was a Thanksgiving feast with our loved ones -- a prize worth fighting for no matter how grueling it was to run up and down the truck carrying heavy boxes of food. I immediately thought about my children, how much I miss them, and how great it would be just to hold them in my arms. But, most of my thoughts and concerns were for the victims of Moore, Oklahoma. I remembered we are in week 7, therefore probably halfway through our stay on the ranch (unless I’m eliminated sooner), so I will have the privilege of being reunited with my family soon. But what about the families in Moore, Oklahoma who have lost their love ones, lost their homes, lost their sense of security and peace during this holiday season? Hopefully, these boxes of food will help spark their spirit and faith.

Needless to say, we lost the challenge. I was upset for a brief moment but I snapped out of it and put that moment in its proper perspective. I had the honor of helping the survivors of Moore, Oklahoma, and that meant there were no losers in this challenge. Sure, I won’t see my family, but I’m thankful it’s only temporary. You see, I’ve learned to plant a seed of gratitude even when faced with adversity and difficulty. I’ve learned to live my life with a spirit of Thanksgiving all year round. Find things to be thankful for, count your blessings, and acknowledge the gift of life every day.
