The Biggest Loser's Tanya Winfield Dishes on Week 5 and Working Out with the Beat Cancer Boot Camp

In her exclusive blog for iVillage, Tanya Winfield talks about how she learned to fight through the intense pain fibroids to make it through her workouts

It’s never a dull moment on the ranch!

This week’s episode was filled with ups and downs, twists and turns. We started off dealing with the disappointment of losing Ruben, but received motivation from Dolvett with our Beat Cancer Boot Camp workout. Anita “Sarge” Kellman and team were absolutely amazing and inspiring. They embodied the spirit of overcoming all obstacles by empowering cancer survivors with physical and mental toughness. And let me tell you, they did more than empower each other -- they empowered the red team. These strong, petite women dressed in Army boot camp gear kicked our butts! They were full of energy and determination! Inspiring the red team to crawl through mud, do sit ups, sprints, burpies, squats, planks and lunges. You name it, we did it! But most importantly they pushed us on and encouraged us to "keep fighting."

Anita "Sarge" Kellman and her team's message to keep fighting was my life line this week, as I endured one of my most challenging weeks due to a medical condition I have been privately dealing with off and on for the last 15 years, ovarian fibroid tumors. This week, I had to endure severe cramps due to the tumors, cramps so painful that I was completely bed ridden. The pain was so intense, this was the first time since being on the ranch that I wanted to throw in the towel, pack my bags and go home. But I knew I had to keep fighting. Although standing up was not an option, even trying to lie down was difficult.

After missing one of Dolvett’s early morning red team workouts, I decided to do something about it. The spirit of the women from Beat Cancer Boot Camp inspired me to push through my pain. I worked out nonstop, a little slower than normal because of my pain, but more focused than ever. These women reminded me that I’m a survivor and no matter what battle I fight, I will be victorious! And boy was I victorious, I lost 15 pounds and to add icing to the cake, Ruben is returning to the ranch next week. What a difference a week makes. I thought about each one of the cancer survivors, their stories, their energy and the fact that they fight the good fight against cancer every day. Beat Cancer Boot Camp empowered me to continue my fight against obesity for another week. I will keep fighting!
