Bill and Giuliana Rancic, who have been open about their struggle to conceive, revealed some very sad news on the set of The View Thursday. The couple told the ladies that Giuliana recently suffered a miscarriage, and that they are still recovering from the emotional devastation.
"It's hard to talk about." Giuliana tells Barbara Walters, on the episode set to air Friday. "This is actually the first time we are talking about this, because nobody knew we were pregnant. And it was really scary."
"I'm sorry I'm getting a little emotional, but about eight weeks in, we went for a routine ultrasound and the nurse looked very concerned. She brought in the doctor and he looked concerned. So he said, 'Go wait for me in my office. I'm going to review this a little more.' And when we were in there he came in...and we just knew that something was wrong."
The E! reality stars say they were shocked when they were given the heartbreaking news.
"I broke down and I couldn't believe it. Our pregnancy was going beautifully," Giuliana says. "We had told our family. We had confided in people and told them and we were just thrilled."
"You could see it in the doctor's eyes," Bill adds. "He had news he didn't want to tell us, but he had to...It was a miscarriage."
"And he told us that we had lost the baby," Giuliana says. "He said it was a chromosomal issue -- that it was actually a blessing in disguise. The body was doing its job."
The couple says they chose to speak out because they don't want there to be a stigma associated with miscarriage. They also want the public to know that they're not giving up on their dream to have a family.
"We are really looking at all of our options," says Giuliana. "I mean, listen, whether it's IVF or whatever it is, we want to have a baby and we will have a baby."
