Well, it's not like anyone expects a calm experience when Bill O'Reilly is a guest on a show.
And not calm is exactly what viewers got when the conservative Fox News host took a seat on The View couch Thursday morning. Instead, a polarizing -- and yet fascinatingly entertaining -- exchange between View cohosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg and O'Reilly took center stage.
"Pinhead! Pinhead!" Behar shouted at the news pundit when he told her that he could learn from him. Learn what, exactly? Why the building of a mosque near Ground Zero in New York City is "inappropriate." But calling O'Reilly -- who was promoting his book Pinheads and Patriots: Where You Stand in the Age of Obama -- a pinhead was the least of the drama.
The debate became increasingly heated when O'Reilly commented that the Muslims killed Americans on Sept. 11. First Whoopi Goldberg shouted that O'Reilly's statement was "bullsh*t." Then Behar stood up, said, "I can't even sit here. I'm outraged by that statement" and walked off stage with Goldberg, making Barbara Walters none too happy (see video above).
"I'm going to say something to all of you. You have just seen what should not happen. We should be able to have discussions without washing our hands and screaming and walking off stage. I love my colleagues. It should not have happened," Walters announced to the audience.
Though she wouldn't defend her cohosts' actions, Walters did demand an apology from O'Reilly for stereotyping all Muslims as radical extremists. O'Reilly finally obliged and Behar and Goldberg returned to the stage.
Unfortunately for all, O'Reilly still had to film another segment on the show. Awkward much?
