The New Blackberry 10: It's Still Your Dad's Smartphone

Could the new Blackberry make us ditch our iPhones? Nah.

On Wednesday, Blackberry (the company formerly known as Research in Motion) unveiled two new smartphones -- the Z10 and Q10 -- with a new operating system.

Wait, people still use Blackberrys? Nope, which explains the company’s rebranding and their possible last-ditch attempt to win back former Crackberry addicts and maybe turn some converts.

As for the phones, the Z10 looks like every other smartphone out there with a touchscreen, comparable storage capability, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 8-megapixel camera and 16GB of storage, while the Q10 resembles the classic Blackberrys of yore with a keyboard, plus a touchscreen.

A truly cool new feature? The “Time Shift” camera. It allows you to take a photo of someone, zoom into their face and “shift” time backward or forward about a second until you find their pic-perfect mug shot. As a habitual photo blinker, this would be the answer to my prayers. Are you listening, Apple?

Blackberry still remains business in the front, party in the back though, offering two separate home screens for personal and work-related icons and programs. There’s also a hub where you can access all of your messages (email, text, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and, of course, BBMing.

Their app catalog includes the usual -- Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare, reports BuzzFeed, but no Instagram. Cause no one wants to see your boss' selfies.

The Z10 has an estimated March release date, and will retail for $199 with a two-year contract, while the Q10 is scheduled for April. Both phones will be available via all major service carriers.
