Blake Lively has loved playing Serena van der Woodsen, but she's excited about the prospect of steering her career away from the Upper East Side. The Gossip Girl actress will be shooting the sixth and final season of the hit CW show this summer, and then she'll hang up her stilettos as the primetime soap star.
"It'll be bittersweet when it's over because it gave me all of this. I think the best way to describe it is like someone who really enjoyed high school, and is like, 'I'm a senior and I can't wait for the next thing!'" she tells BULLETT's summer issue.
It's not that Lively isn't grateful for the opportunities (and stardom) the series has bestowed upon her. She's just ready for the next chapter of her acting career.
"Gossip Girl was so great, but what's the next challenge in life? Because, you know, six years is a long time," she explains.
And if she's being brutally honest, the 24-year-old star knows she won't look back on her time playing the rich young New Yorker as her most nuanced role.
"As an actor who plays a caricature of myself on the show, I don't think I'd say, 'Watch Gossip Girl for my best quality of work.' But I am very lucky to have had that experience,'" Lively admits.
Lively, who's dating her Green Lantern costar Ryan Reynolds, is excited about the upcoming release of director Oliver Stone's drama Savages, in which she plays the "shared" girlfriend of two marijuana growers (Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson).
"To play a blonde California girl who gets with two men was scary. If it looks like me and talks like me, how do I turn it into something different? It would have been easier if I'd been thrown into the movie with a Scottish accent and purple hair," says Lively, who recently admitted she's only had four boyfriends in real life.
Savages hits theaters July 6.
