Twangy Christmas songs. Celebrity friends. A violent, talking turkey. Yep, Blake Shelton's Not So Family Christmas (Monday at 10 p.m. ET on NBC) has all the makings of a special holiday show.
"I am so proud of the performances on the show," says the country crooner and Voice judge/coach, who'll be joined by his wife, Miranda Lambert, plus famous friends like Reba McEntire, Michael Buble, Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera. "The skits are hilarious and the icing on the cake was having the opportunity to perform with my mom. Christmas has always been about family to me so having my mom and Miranda there -- that made it Christmas."
Not sure the special's title fits that sentiment, but we'll let that slide. (Clearly, by "Not So Family Christmas" he means that friends and talking turkeys will also be in on the celebration.) Watch a preview here:
Shelton will perform holiday songs from his recent album, Cheers, It's Christmas. And when his mother, Dorothy Shackleford, performs alongside him, it will be on a song they cowrote together, called "Time for Me to Come Home."
“She was really excited that we were writing a song together, because she’s always coming up with song ideas,” Shelton told a CBS radio station. Once the song was complete, he says, "I told her, 'Mom, it'd be really cool if you sang on it with me.'" Aww, that's sweet!
Let's just hope he was able to keep that evil turkey away from her during filming!
