If the relationship between Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown and her "adopted son" Nick Gordon already makes you uncomfortable, then you might want to skip this bit of news: they appear to be engaged. People reports that Bobbi Kristina, 19, is sporting an engagement ring on her finger, and quotes a source claiming that Gordon, 22, proposed about a week ago.
While Bobbi and Nick are not biologically related, they were raised in the same home; Whitney took Nick into the family when he was around 12. And though Nick was never officially adopted, his sibling-like relationship with Bobbi has made news of their romance troubling to the rest of the family.
"Yes, they are engaged, but the family is trying to coax her away from it," an insider tells People.
Last week, Gordon addressed the backlash against his relationship with Bobbi Kristina on Twitter, though he didn't spell out that they were girlfriend and boyfriend. In fact, he denied a romantic relationship to ABC News, saying that they were "just close" and "grieving together." But actions speak louder than words, and just a few days ago, Nick and Bobbi Kristina were photographed kissing and holding hands in Atlanta.
"I have always felt there was some interest beyond a platonic interest in each other," a family friend told People. "It appears to me that Nippy (Whitney's nickname) either didn't see it or didn't want to address it."
And now that they may be making it official, Whitney's mother Cissy Houston is reportedly doing everything she can to stop it. According to TMZ, Cissy has described Nick and Bobbi's relationship as "incestuous" and believes that Nick is taking advantage of his "sister." Since the pair is currently living together in Whitney's home, Cissy is trying to drive them apart by taking legal steps to have Nick evicted.
As for Bobbi Kristina, she isn't speaking to the media about any of this, but she has been retweeting supportive messages from fans (i.e., "Im glad @REALbkBrown has sumone like @ndgordon by her side to support and see her thru this difficult time, haters fallback"). It sounds like the controversial relationship is bringing her some comfort in the wake of her mom's death -- and while this probably isn't the ideal time to be making decisions about marriage, it's a good thing she has someone in her life to help ease the pain.
