There are matters of deep global significance swirling around President Obama and the hallowed halls of the White House right now. This item of news out of Washington is not one of them, but it is pretty darn cute: The Obama family got a new puppy!
According to the White House blog, the new Portuguese Water Dog named Sunny is about a year old, and made her way to the White House Monday. She's the same breed as the Obamas' older dog, Bo; it's one that works well for the family's allergies. And, says the White House, Sunny is the perfect little sis for Bo, with a temperament that is "full of energy and very affectionate." In fact, the first family's name for the dog was meant as an apt match for her upbeat disposition.
Yes, Sunny will romp around with Sasha, Malia and the gang, including taking after-dinner walks with the family. And she'll be great company for Bo, whose limited interaction with furry friends wasn't lost on Mrs. Obama, who told reporters in October she'd organized a "doggie play date" to encourage more of it. But if she follows in Bo's dutiful footsteps, Sunny will also be eagerly along for official biz, like visiting Walter Reed and the Children’s National Medical Center with her very important family.
And now, for your daily dose of non-partisan cuteness, feast your eyes upon Sunny and Bo's ridiculously sweet love fest:
Say it with us now: Awwwww!
Are you happy to see Bo and the Obama girls get a new buddy?
