Ladies, Brad Pitt wants you to smell like Chanel No. 5.
The Killing Them Softly star is the newest face of the 91-year-old fragrance, and his new commercial for Chanel No. 5 hit the internet Monday. It's clear in the video, which only features Pitt talking to his audience, that the 48-year-old actor is doing his best to lure prospective Chanel users. Does his seductive voice work for you?
"It's not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on," the fiance of Angelina Jolie tells the camera. "The world turns, and we turn with it. Plans disappear, dreams take over, but wherever I go, there you are. My luck, my fate, my fortune. Chanel No. 5. Inevitable."
The ad has earned mixed reviews from its audience, with some criticizing Pitt's delivery. But he is the first man to ever be the spokesperson for one of Chanel's perfumes, and it's a gamble that the brand is hoping will pay off.
"To keep a legend fresh, you always have to change its point of view," Chanel fragrance and beauty president Andrea d'Avack tells Women's Wear Daily. "It is the first time we've had a man speaking about a women's fragrance. We think very much that the perfume is a seduction between a man, a woman and the perfume."
The commercial was shot by Atonement director Joe Wright, who has worked with the brand since 2006.
