The end of Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper's relationship still has people scratching their heads, but inside sources say it was Cooper's desire to climb the Hollywood ladder that threw a wrench in their romance.
"If I had to pick any possible mistress it would be Brad’s career," says the source. "He worked really hard to get into leading man status."
But sources close to the couple say Zellweger, 41, was willing to let Cooper, 36, make his mark.
"Renee had to take a backseat," says the insider. "She traveled with him to make it work."
An Oscar winner with an impressive career under her belt, Zellweger had no problems letting her man shine.
"She's accomplished a lot of her professional goals," says the source. "So Renee took some time out to be a great girlfriend and see if this is what it took to make a relationship work."
Still, the couple who met on the set of Case 39, just couldn't make it work.
"She stopped fighting," says the Zellweger insider. "It was just not working out."
