It's been almost a year since Bradley Cooper was christened People's "Sexiest Man Alive." And you know what that means: It's time for him to pass the crown!
Cooper, 37, doesn't have any say in choosing the new Sexiest Man, but he does have a suggestion: Richard Gere.
"He's sexy," Cooper said of Gere at Monday's Hollywood Film Awards. "You could take it from there."
Actually, People is one step ahead of Cooper. Gere, 63, received the Sexiest Man Alive title in 1999, the year he reunited with Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts in Runaway Bride.
So who will be named the hottest guy of 2012? The possibilities are almost endless, but -- assuming they're not going to recycle any recent winners -- here are a few of our ideas:
Ryan Gosling -- Last year, there was a huge fan campaign to take the Sexiest Man title away from Cooper and hand it to Gosling, which would make him the obvious choice for 2012. Even Cooper admitted that Gosling might have been a better pick. Will the editors of People agree?
Robert Pattinson -- With the final Twilight film hitting theaters in November, this may finally be Pattinson's year. Incidentally, he's had no trouble nabbing the title overseas: Glamour UK's reader have voted him as the #1 Sexiest Man four years in a row.
Robert Downey Jr. -- He's been a star for 25 years, yet the Iron Man actor has never been hotter (and we're not just talking about his box office numbers). There's one thing, however, that still separates him from the Johnny Depps and George Clooneys of the world: the Sexiest Man Alive title.
Sure, People could also go with an edgier star (Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy) or an up-and-comer (Liam Hemsworth, Jesse Williams). Or they could just give the title to Brad Pitt again. Either way, the current winner says he's okay with letting go.
"I'm in therapy three times a week, but I think I'll get through it," Cooper joked to People.
