The Story Behind It All

The reason so many new vampires are introduced in Breaking Dawn -- Part 2 is because Bella and Edward need to prove to the Volturi that their daughter is half-human, half-vampire instead of an "immortal child" -- a human child turned into a vampire. Renesmee seems to be the first hybrid of her kind, so the Volturi automatically assume that Bella and Edward created her instead of giving birth to her (as we saw Bella do in Breaking Dawn -- Part 1). As it is illegal in vampire culture to create an immortal child, Bella and Edward need to convince the many covens of vampires they called together that Renesmee is what they say, so that they can act as witnesses in front of the Volturi and not be executed. Needless to say, supernatural lie detectors come in pretty handy in this film!
