Occupation: Bartender
Favorite cheat food: Pizza
Goal:To weigh 210 pounds.
Starting weight: 421 pounds

What was your big turning point-either during the show or before that made you realize you needed to lose the weight?
My father was undergoing cancer treatments, my grandmother was on her deathbed in the hospital, and I had lost my job as a financial advisor.

What is one thing you wish you had known before going on The Biggest Loser?
I wish I had known how hard it was going to be when I got home from the ranch. Adjusting back to my life when I had changed but nothing else had was quite difficult. It is something I am still dealing with on a daily basis.

Did you watch the show before becoming a contestant? Were you inspired by a particular contestant? Who was it and how did they inspire you?
I did watch the show beforehand and there weren’t any particular contestants that inspired me, just how the show as a whole benefits everyone that is on it is inspiration enough for me.

If you could have done one thing differently during the show, what would it be?
If I could have done one thing a little more differently it most likely would have been to mix up my workouts just a bit more. I got stuck on a couple routines, which I loved, but maybe needed to change it up a bit.

What’s the hardest thing to adapt to while living on the ranch?
I actually had quite an easy time adjusting to life on the ranch. My life is very hectic and I actually appreciated the isolation and solitude that the ranch offered.

What keeps you motivated when you don’t feel like working out or you want to eat junk food?
Just the overall unbelievable feeling of being alive for the first time in a long time! I think back to how miserable I was at 421 pounds, and know I will never go back to that again.

What’s your favorite workout?
My favorite workout is to go hiking. I really enjoy being outdoors in the fresh air enjoying nature. Why be cooped up in the gym when you can be outside in the sun and freshness!

What’s the best advice Bob or Jillian gave you?
Bob put me through a ridiculous circuit and was surprised that I had somehow survived it. He noted that my runs had perfect forms, my lift had perfect forms and that he couldn’t figure me out like the other contestants because he saw I was in complete control of my body. He ended up figuring out that I had to stop eating my worries away and redirect my focus to working out.

What’s your favorite healthy meal or snack?
I love a good breakfast. I usually have a couple eggs, a couple slices of wheat toast with organic jam, and a greek yogurt with berries, vanilla extract, a little truvia, and cinnamon. However, nothing beats a great sandwich. A couple slices of wheat toast, a laughing cow, 4 ounces of lean meat, slices of onion and tomato, slice of reduced fat swiss, and a handful of spinach.

What’s something viewers at home wouldn’t know from watching the show?

They wouldn’t know how hard the workouts really are. What they show on TV is just a small snippet of what actually goes on. It doesn’t show us working out 5-6 hours a day!

Name: Brendan Donovan
Hometown: Boston, MA
Occupation:
Special Education Teacher
Favorite cheat food:
Pizza
Goal: To weigh 220 pounds.
Starting weight:
362 pounds

What was your big turning point-either during the show or before that made you realize you needed to lose the weight?
My big turning point was when I realized how many medical issues stemmed from my weight. I kept going to the doctor for seperate issues. Then, one day my doctor told me that they ALL (high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, back problems, depression) stemmed from my weight. It was scary.

What is one thing you wish you had known before going on The Biggest Loser?
The one thing I wish I had known before The Biggest Loser is that I could lose the weight and get healthy on my own. I never thought it was possible, but like Aaron Thompkins said in episode 1 of this season..."The Biggest Loser makes miracles happen" and I thought I needed a miracle.

Did you watch the show before becoming a contestant? Were you inspired by a particular contestant? Who was it and how did they inspire you?
I have been inspired by many of the contestants. In particular, I would have to say Mark Kruger, Jay Kruger, Pete Thomas, and Alli Vincent because they have kept all of their weight off and have continued to help other people.

If you could have done one thing differently during the show, what would it be?
Honestly, I would have done nothing differently. I stand behind who I am and the decisions I make.

What’s the hardest thing to adapt to while living on the ranch?
The two hardest things while living on the ranch was the fakeness of some of the contestants and not seeing my niece. A few of the contestants would act one way in front of the cameras and act a totally different way off camera. My niece Lillian is the first child in our family so it was hard missing some of the first year of her life.

What keeps you motivated when you don’t feel like working out or you want to eat junk food?
My life keeps me motivated now. I struggled a little when I got home. I had to have surgery, which really set me back for a while and I've been dealing with some orthopedic issues, but I can't allow my weight to affect me anymore. I lived too long as a miserable person who only left the house to go to the doctor's office. I am motivated by living and feeling great everyday.

What’s your favorite workout?
Cycle training with my trainer Earl Strong. I love just seeing sweat pour off of my face, and Earl really knows how to get that sweat rolling.

What’s the best advice Bob or Jillian gave you?
On Episode 2, Bob told me to forgive myself for what I did to my ex-fiance. I lived the last 5 years with some major guilt issues. I have since let them go.

What’s your favorite healthy meal or snack?
An Oh Yeah bar or crushed stawberries

What’s something viewers at home wouldn’t know from watching the show?
Viewers at home wouldn't know how much game play goes on outside of Frado, Parick and I. With the exception of Tina and Sophia, everyone played the game just as hard, if not harder, than Frado, Patrick or myself. Everyone gives us hell for getting rid of the threats. I don't get it. If people were that big of a threat they wouldn't have fallen below the line. Right? I have no excuse. I fell below the red line and I accept my fate. It seems as though other contestants forgot that they played the game hard. When they were elimianted instead of telling the truth they had sour grapes. Well, I have no sour grapes. I enjoyed my time on the ranch and I wish everyone the very best.
