Looks like Bret Michaels has finally found his soulmate -- and he didn't need Rock of Love to meet her! According to Star, the resilient rocker has proposed to his on-again, off-again girlfriend of 16 years, Kristi Lynn Gibson.
A source told the mag that Michaels, 47, proposed to Gibson over the July 4th weekend at his ranch outside of Scottsdale, Ariz., and she happily accepted. But why has the single-for-so-long singer finally decided to settle down? Well, it seems his recent brush with death had a lot to do with it.
"Bret felt like now was the time because Kristi has been through so much with Bret and has been by his side every step of the way," a friend of the couple said.
Michaels, who could possibly be the next American Idol judge, suffered a brain hemorrhage that threatened to end his life earlier this year. Turns out the emotional ordeal has put his priorities into perspective. "He's woken up," the source said. "He now knows he wants to be a husband."
Gibson and Michaels have two daughters --- Raine Elizabeth, 10, and Jorja Bleu, 5 -- and the whole family showed up in N.Y.C. for Michaels' July 12 appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. The newest addition to the foursome was a pretty sparkler on Gibson's left hand, indicating that the engagement talk is true -- and she couldn't be happier.
"Kristi is thrilled that they will be getting married," an insider said. "They haven't set a date and no plans are in the works yet. But when Bret's tour ends they will work out the details. Bret wants to be in excellent health before he walks down the aisle. And, of course, he needs time to find the perfect bandanna to wear on his big day!"
