Bret Michaels Recovering After "Successful" Heart Surgery

The newly engaged rocker had surgery Monday to repair a hole in his heart

Bret Michaels had surgery on Monday to repair a hole in his heart. The procedure had been planned for some time and the operation was a success.

Doctors discovered the hole in the rocker’s heart last May after Michaels suffered a massive brain hemorrhage and a "warning stroke" that nearly cost him his life. Fortunately the Poison frontman made a full recovery and even went on to win first place in The Celebrity Apprentice.

Michaels, 47, was optimistic about the corrective procedure this past month.

A rep for the newly engaged dad tells People the procedure was "successful" and he "is currently recuperating at St. Joseph’s where he remains in observation in ICU." It was just last month that Michaels finally popped the question to Kristi Gibson, his on-off girlfriend of 16 years and the mother of his two children Raine, 10, and Jorja, 5.

This past September, following his string of medical maladies, the rocker posed nude on the cover of Billboard magazine to show off his healthy body. We’re willing to bet Michaels shows the world once again that no hole in his heart can keep him down! We wish him a speedy, successful recovery.
