'Bring It On' Actress Natina Reed Dies After Getting Struck by a Car

The 32-year-old R&B singer was hit by a car as she was walking on a dark stretch of a Georgia state highway on Friday night

Natina Reed, who starred in the cheerleading comedy Bring It On and sang with the R&B trio Blaque, died on Friday after being struck by a car in Atlanta. She would have been 33 on Sunday.

A protege of TLC rapper Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, Reed became a star at 19 as part of the girl group Blaque. The R&B trio had two Hot 100 hits, "808" and "Bring It All To Me," from their self-titled 1999 debut album. In 2000, all three band members appeared in the hit film Bring It On, as part of an inner-city cheerleading squad led by Gabrielle Union.

Unfortunately, Blaque floundered after 2001, when they were dropped from Columbia Records. Reed, who was then engaged to rapper Kurupt, gave birth to their son Tren Brown in 2002. Shortly afterwards, she left the group and was replaced by Erica Pullins. However, according to original band members Shamari Fears-DeVoe and Brandi Williams, Reed had recently reunited with Blaque and was working on a new album, along with a reality show, before she passed.

“Natina continuously embodied the pioneering spirit of Blaque and her undeniable creativity touched the hearts of fans everywhere. Natina was a mother, sister, accomplished songwriter, artist and friend," the two remaining band members said in a statement.

Police are investigating the circumstances of Reed's death, but they do not believe that the driver of the car is at fault. The singer was struck while walking in a dark intersection on a George state highway on Friday night, and when paramedics could not revive her, she was pronounced dead at the hospital at 10:59 p.m.

Right now, Reed's celebrity fans and friends are mourning her on Twitter, where Russell Simmons, Lance Bass, Sherri Shepherd, Gabrielle Union and Amber Reilly have expressed their condolences.
