If you thought Bristol Palin and The Situation's dancing was awkward, just wait until you see their abstinence PSA! The Dancing with the Stars castmates paired up for a commercial in support of the Candies Foundation, a nonprofit that works toward the prevention of teen pregnancy. Their intentions are good, but the results are -- well, check out the 90-second spot below. Try not to wince.
Amazing, right? It's like one of those embarrassing videos we had to watch in sixth grade health class, crossed with deleted scenes from Jersey Shore. The whole thing can pretty much be summed up in this line, spoken by The Situation to Bristol:
"Well, just in case you do get into a situation, I wanna make sure that you are situated, because if you do get into a situation with your situation, you may end up with a situation, and you may not like that situation."
In case that wasn't clear, the Situation is telling Bristol Palin not to have unprotected sex because she might get pregnant. And if we were Bristol Palin, we would probably say something like, "Hellooo? Where have you been since for the past three years?"
In fact, what we'd really like to see Bristol do in this ad, is lecture the Situation on how to treat women like people instead of objects. Even though he says "I totally respect abstinence" (because "it has the word abs in it" -- groooan), we don't exactly get that message from his actions on Jersey Shore. In fact, it seems like The Situation has very little respect for any woman who doesn't want to sleep with him within ten minutes of meeting him. What kind of message does that send to teenagers who are struggling with these issues?
It's great that popular young stars are encouraging teens to think before they have sex ("pause before you play"). But wouldn't it be better to see The Situation walk the walk, instead of speaking all that awkward dialogue?
Do you think The Situation is a good spokesperson for abstinence? Chime in below!
