In a classic art-imitating-life casting stunt, Bristol Palin will be playing herself in an upcoming episode of the hit cable series The Secret Life of the American Teenager. ABC Family announced that the daughter of onetime vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin will make her acting debut on the show, which stars Molly Ringwald and focuses on the theme of teenage pregnancy.
Palin, 19, said in a statement, "I am thrilled to be on this show and to be part of a program that educates teens and young adults about the consequences of teen pregnancy." Bristol Palin has a 1-year-old son, Tripp, with ex-fiance and recent Playgirl model Levi Johnston, also 19.
In the episode (slated to air this summer when the series returns for its third season) Palin will play herself but is cast as one of Amy's (Shailene Woodley) friends at a music program for teenage mothers. The show's executive producer Brenda Hampton said in a statement, "We're thrilled to have [Bristol] join us, and I think she will bring additional attention to the issues facing teen parents that we've been exploring for a couple seasons now."
