Since Simon Cowell unceremoniously fired judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger and host Steven Jones from The X Factor in late January, rumors have swirled that such big-name stars as Beyonce, Katy Perry, Madonna and Mariah Carey might join FOX's hit reality competition show. Now, a new pop star is in the mix.
Britney Spears wants to be considered for The X Factor judges' panel and has even reached out to Cowell and his team about joining the show, a source close to the "Till the World Ends" singer tells Us Weekly.
As you might have expected, an X Factor rep has yet to weigh in on the report, so you can add Britney's name to the long list of potential -- but not verified -- contenders.
Also reportedly up for consideration are Janet Jackson, Fergie and Pink.
When Anderson Cooper recently asked Jackson whether she was a judge on The X Factor, she denied it. But when he pushed her and asked if that meant she just wasn't a judge yet, she coyly answered, "No, I am not, but that's all I really think I should say."
Auditions for season 2 of The X Factor begin online March 1, with open-call auditions starting March 14. Perhaps we'll get some official word on the new judges sometime around then? There's nothing like a big casting announcement to stir up some positive PR.
