Britney Spears Is Close to Sealing 'X Factor' Deal -- Would She Be a Good Fit?

The 30-year-old singer is rumored to come with a $10-million price tag, but it seems Simon Cowell might think she's worth it!

Britney Spears might be headed to primetime, y'all! According to The Hollywood Reporter, a "highly placed source" says that her fiancee, talent agent Jason Trawick, is negotiating a $10-million deal for her to sit on the judging panel of The X Factor during its second season.

"I'm fascinated by Britney," gushed Simon Cowell to reporters via a conference call last week. "The fact that she's one of the most talked about -- not just pop stars, but people -- in the world today means that you've got this star power. She's still hot, she’s still having hit records, and she's still controversial. There's a reason for that."

Cowell may sound like Britney's biggest cheerleader, but the feeling may soon be mutual. If the very determined Brit signs off on the deal with the singer, Spears will become one of the highest earners on reality TV. She'll rank just behind Jennifer Lopez, who, according to Rolling Stone, scored $12 million for her second season on American Idol.

Truth be told, Simon Cowell has asked a handful of top-brand singers to join his show. Ever since Cowell dropped Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger from the judging panel (after the show's first season underperformed in the ratings), the rumor mill has churned out names like Beyonce, Pink and Fergie to replace them. Janet Jackson was "very flattered" at the offer, but declined because she has a tour lined up, and Mariah Carey is busy with her twins.

But frankly, Britney Spears couldn't be a more perfect fit. The 30-year-old singer forged a mind-blowingly pervasive pop music career on the strength of…what? Gorgeously explosive vocals? Not particularly. Brilliant songwriting? Nope. An ineffable, unexplainable, you-know-it-when-you-see-it star power? Yep. She's got that X factor, and it's made her into an icon.

Spears just came off her 79-date tour for Femme Fatale, an album that spawned four hit songs and received more or less positive reviews. So her participation in the show wouldn't be seen as an attempted comeback. She's already back. Plus, for once her personal life seems to be on level ground, as she and Trawick are blissfully engaged and planning a wedding.

Is she worth $10 million? If the rumors are true, then Cowell seems to think she is.
