This week's all-Madonna episode of Glee, titled "The Power of Madonna," was nothing short of a pop-culture phenomenon. It not only got the seal of approval from the Material Girl herself, but the episode's soundtrack, according to Reuters, has already made its way to No. 1 on the U.S. pop album chart. So, is Britney Spears next for a Glee treatment?
Her rep is certainly trying to make it happen! After all, Lady Gaga tunes will reportedly be featured in an upcoming episode, so why not Spears? Brit's manager, Adam Leber, tweeted his approval on Thursday: "Do you guys want to see a Britney Spears episode of GLEE? Thoughts?" He later started a trending topic, "#BritneySpearsGLEE," in hopes of sparking a rally cry to get the attention of Glee producers.
Is Leber deluded that he can make a Britney episode of Glee into a reality? Maybe. But Twitter and Facebook campaigns certainly worked for Betty White Justin Bieber, who both scored gigs on Saturday Night Live due to fans' fervent pleas.
If the campaign does work, we can't help but picture which of Spears' singles would make the cut -- and, more importantly, who would be singing them! How about Glee's fame-hungry Rachel (Lea Michele) belting out "Lucky" or, perhaps, demure Ms. Pilsbury (Jayma Mays) admitting her lust for Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) with "I'm a Slave 4 U"? We're suddenly thinking this might not be a bad idea, after all!
