If you're looking for a good reason to watch X Factor, then look no further: Britney Spears is taking a seat at the judge's table. According to Deadline, the 30-year-old pop star is in final negotiations to join Simon Cowell's talent competition, which dropped judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul (but kept L.A. Reid) after its first season. And they want her badly: She's reportedly getting close to $15 million for the gig, more than Jennifer Lopez made last season on American Idol. Will she be worth it? We think so! Here are three reasons why we're psyched to see Britney on X Factor.
1. We love a good comeback. Britney has already bounced back from her well-publicized nervous breakdown and career slump in the mid-2000s, but becoming a high-powered reality TV judge would be the cherry on top. And who knows the secret to a spectacular pop career better than Britney, who has been making hits since she was 16 years old?
2. She's great TV. Every time Spears has made an appearance on TV, she's caused a stir, whether she was playing herself on Glee or geeking it up for How I Met Your Mother. And let's not forget her 2005 reality show Britney & Kevin: Chaotic -- which was, yes, a train wreck, but also showed that Britney knows how to play to a camera as well as any Bravo Housewife.
3. Britney loves controversy (and controversy loves her). Through her biggest triumphs and her lowest head-shaving moment, Britney has always had one thing going for her: She's never boring. She's always been a provocative artist who knows how to shake things up, and she's fearless enough to lock horns with anybody -- even Simon. Which is exactly what X-Factor needs to stand out from the pack.
Now the big question is: With Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Katy Perry, Pink and Fergie reportedly in the mix, who will Simon find to fill that other judge's seat?
