Simon Monjack is speaking out on the untimely loss of his wife, 32-year-old actress Brittany Murphy.
“My world was destroyed yesterday,” Monjack told Access Hollywood on Monday afternoon.
The British screenwriter described Sunday as a "regular day" until Brittany was found by her mother unconscious on the bathroom floor. "Sharon went into the bathroom because she had been in there a long time. Her mom screamed for me and I ran. Then called 911," he said.
Despite reports that Murphy had been very sick in the days before her death, Monjack, who married the 8 Mile star in May 2007, claims her condition wasn't severe. "She had laryngitis," he said. "She had been tired at the end of the year. She had made a couple of movies."
Monjack also refuted rumors that the actress was negatively influenced by the people around her. "I don't know why anyone would think that...She found love. We found love. Brittany didn't get to where Brittany was with anyone controlling her… Brittany was Brittany."
As celebrities in Hollywood Tweeted their thoughts and feelings on the loss of his wife, Monjack said he was particularly affected by what Ashton Kutcher, Murphy's onetime boyfriend, wrote.
"I loved what Ashton wrote on Twitter. It was comforting to me...I couldn't have said it better."
