When 32-year-old Brittany Murphy died suddenly last December, fans with suspicious minds zeroed in on her husband, Simon Monjack -- wondering if the small-time screenwriter with a history of debt would start angling to profit from Murphy’s death. But as it turns out, Brittany Murphy left her entire estate to her mother.
TMZ reported on Tuesday that Murphy composed a handwritten will before she was married, leaving everything to mother Sharon. Monjack told the website that Murphy had a formal will and trust drafted more recently, but that her mother was still the sole inheritor. According to Monjack, Murphy’s revised will contains the statement: "I am married to Simon Monjack who I have intentionally left out of this will."
"It was one of the conditions I married her with," Monjack told E! News. "I knew I would never want for money, and Brittany's high-earning days were a few years behind her. I had not helped build her income the way Sharon had, and I just felt that Brittany's money was rightfully Sharon's if God forbid anything ever happened to Brittany."
Monjack and Sharon have announced plans to move to New York, where they will live separately, but share custody of Brittany’s dog Clara.
"We have been to hell and back together,” said the late starlet’s husband, “and we will need each other's support as we continue to grieve."
