Building a Room Of Your Own in the Garage

"I want to build a space in my house that is just mine. I have a space outside like that...but even here in Florida the weather isn't always accomodating. I don't want to build on to the house...that is certainly out of my self-indulgence budget. However, we have a detached garage that is merely a repository for household belongings that have no home. So, my thought is that I will divide off part of the garage and make a room. Where do I start? How difficult is this as a project?" -- iVillager rjjosie

Question:

I'd definitely say try the space out before you start building walls!

If the garage isn't being used for cars, it would be an excellent idea to pursue. You might want to section off the space by hanging shower curtain liners (colors are available, so try a color that makes you feel good). Or make a room divider out of a standing screen. Add a comfy chair, side table and lamp - spend some time in this space and get a feel for it. If it seems like this is where you would be able to catch come quiet time, then come back and we can start talking about how to construct a wall. Good luck!
