Cameron Diaz surprised fans when she stepped out with her super-short bob hairstyle last December -- but the truth is that she was just as shocked as everyone else by the new 'do.
The actress, 39, revealed in an her interview with Jay Leno on Tuesday night that the entire haircut was the result of a miscommunication with her trusted hairstylist.
"There was a little misunderstanding," she explained on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. "I said, 'Oh I just want a little bit off' … and it went from here to here," she added, pointing out two very different hair lengths.
When the What to Expect When You're Expecting star saw the final cut, her response wasn't what her stylist, a close personal friend, expected.
"I just burst into tears and started crying, and I felt so vulnerable," she explained. "For a woman to all of a sudden have no hair, oh my god."
To make matters worse, the setting wasn't a posh hair salon, where Diaz could run to the lounge and cry without upsetting her stylist. Diaz gets her hair cut at her stylist's home -- in the kitchen, to be precise.
"I felt really bad, she felt really bad, she started crying, I started crying, a couple of other people started crying," said Diaz, who admitted she "yelled and screamed" at her friend. But eventually Diaz got used to the short hair. "I ended up writing her a few emails after, the next couple days, assuring her I wasn’t going to kill her."
